Bank Holiday Weekend Brings Mixed Fortunes

This week at Sandilands saw mixed results for the sides of Addiscombe. It was always going to be difficult to secure another clean sweep of results but everyone was hopeful. Here is how the teams fared.

The 1st XI were at home to Southern Railway & Kenley looking to capitalise on a first win the week before. ACC fielded first and did well to restrict their opposition to 203 all out from 49.3 overs. Chris Jones marked his return to the club from university with good figures of 3 for 26. Naeem Anjum also weighed in with 3-31 with other contributions from all bowlers. The chase faltered at 79-5 however a superb rearguard action saw ACC reach 159-7. However quick wickets fell again and ACC were bowled out for 194 - falling 10 runs short. Special mention must go to Jason Moore who hit 55 not out to even get his side close.

The ACC second string continued their impressive start to the season away to Horsley & Send. In a reduced overs game (35 overs a side) ACC fielded first and had to cope with a wet outfield and slightly soggy ball. A good effort by Horsley & Send who paced their innings well to finish on 173-6 from their 35 overs. Anthony Starnes was the wicket taker of the day whilst being slightly expensive with 3-47. Needing five an over it was far from assured however on a very good batting track ACC were confident. After losing an early wicket Craig Stevens (75) and Barry Lineker (56) provided a massive effort to put Addiscombe into a position where the win was most probable. David Moore and Barry Dean then finished it off with 2.3 overs to spare. The 2nd XI are now top of the league!

The 3rd XI were due to host Purley at Caterham however they were the only side on Saturday to fall foul of the weather and no play was achievable.

The Saturday 4th team travelled to Streatham & Marlborough with an unbeaten start to their season to protect. ACC were put into bat in another reduced overs game. Steve Hasler led his side from the front with 53 at the top of the order and the score amassed when the declaration came was 190-9 from 36.5 overs. The other notable contribution was from Ryan Cave who it 33 not out which was his own personal best. Another tight game was seen as S&M reached 188-8 from their 34 overs, falling just short. Again Cave featured with 3-49. However this did mean that the 4th XI gained a losing draw and kept up their brilliant start to the year which has seen the 4th XI 13 points clear at the top!

Only one fixture was played on Sunday against Morden Sunday 1st XI. The side put out was mainly a Sunday 2nd XI side and so it was very pleasing to gain a victory. In a 40 over game ACC batted first, and there were problems afoot as they slumped to 55-7. However, on his debut for the Sunday 2nd XI, Ricky Borrett and James Ramsey both led the charge with 35 and 33 respectively. 22 not out from Chris Jones and 16 from Grant Braganza (plus quite a few extras) meant that ACC posted a very respectable 175. In truth Morden were never close to their target after a tight opening spell from Jones and Cowlin, taking a couple of early wickets and going for very few runs. Morden were bowled out for 115 and it was a great effort against a good side.

On Bank Holiday Monday the Trust side took on Old Rutlishians away from home. ACC won the toss and decided to bat and on a good pitch immediately tucked into the Old Ruts bowling. Andrew Hurrion has to take the biggest plaudits after hitting his maiden century (102) opening the batting. Other contributions from Docherty (43), Cowlin (33) and Benham (31) saw the A's post a mammoth score of 265-8 from 40 overs. The big total again came into play when Old Ruts came out to bat as a number of rash shots gave ACC a big advantage. The best bowler on the day was Scott Benham with figures of 3-19.

Finally, there was a friendly played at Worcester Park with David Roche in charge of an ACC XI. Batting first ACC posted a total of 204 from 40 overs with Bradley Rose (61) and David Roche (60) both hitting fifties. Lewis Noble (33) and Robbie Naraine (26) also contributed. Worcester Park then came out and under tight bowling struggled to make an impact on the total set. They finished on 144-8 from 38 overs with Tom Macgregor being the pick of the ACC bowlers with 4-44.

Another great weekend of action for ACC is ahead with the Surrey Championship moving into declaration cricket. The 1st XI will hope to reignite their season with victory over Cranleigh at home. The 2nd XI travel to Esher to try and continue a fine start to the year whilst the 3rd XI also travel to Merstham. The 4th XI play host to Alleyn and Honor Oak. Sunday's fixtures see the development side play Cheam at Sandilands whilst the Sunday 2nd XI hope to remain unbeaten away to Norwood.

Hope to see you all at the club at the weekend!
